Multimedia Phone From Sharp

Sharp has released the MultiMedia Phone, a telephone/fax machine that enables you to send and receive e-mail and access the Internet. The new Phone is a PersonalJava-compliant machine equipped with a touch-screen LCD, and the onscreen keyboard lets you create, fax, and e-mail text messages. It permits dial-up Net access using its internal modem, and ISDN and Ethernet connection is possible using optional terminal adapters. The MultiMedia Phone is 313mm x 200mm x 79mm, and it weighs 1.7kg. Retail price is open.

Browser Board from NTT DoCoMo

NTT DoCoMo has released a new type of Pocket Board (portable e-mail device), dubbed the Browser Board. In addition to the e-mail functionality of the regular Pocket Board, the new device features Internet browser software and personal information management (PIM) capabilities. It supports DoCoMo's ISP services, Mopera and Paldio Net Surfing (which do not require a separate ISP service contract). The connection cable is optional, and Browser Board users can employ either a cellular or PHS telephone to browse the Internet. The Browser Board is 160mm x 90mm x 26mm, and it weighs 305g (including batteries). Retail price is ¥31,900.

Rich Text Converter from Antenna House

Do you ever receive files produced by an application that you don't have? The Rich Text Converter from Antenna House is here to help. Text Converter will first detect the file's format, then it will convert the file into a format understood by your PC's software. It can even detect data produced by stand-alone word processing machines such as the Shoin (Sharp) and Rupo (Toshiba) - file formats that are usually impossible to access from regular PC word processing apps. The new version, 2000R2, can convert more file formats than earlier versions. The corporate version retails for ¥46,800, and the personal version sells for ¥15,000.

DigiOnSound from Media Vision

DigiOnSound is software that enables you to create and edit music, displaying the newly created music onscreen. The music can be placed on a website or used to create videos, animation, etc. The advantage of using this software with video clips is that you can edit the sound with the video running at the same time, enabling you to easily apply BGM or voice narration. It features noise reduction, a fade in/out function, and other special effect tools. With its 96kHz sampling rate, DigiOnSound produces better-than-CD sound quality. Retail price for the standard version is ¥36,000, and ¥14,800 for the academic version.

Desktop On-Call from IBM

IBM has released Desktop On-Call Version 3.0, nicknamed "PC Remote Control." Through a dial-up connection or via a LAN, the software allows you to operate another PC remotely. Just install the software on the machine you would like to remotely control, and the host machine needs only be equipped with a Web browser that supports Java applets. Java applet technology allows you to control not only remote Windows computers, but also Mac, Linux, and other computers as well. Desktop On-Call retails for ¥11,800, and the upgrade version retails for ¥6,800.
