What are your company's major activities today?
We handle as many as 60Ð80 senior search assignments a year. Seventy percent of our business is for multinational firms operating in or just entering Japan. The remaining 30 percent of our business is with Japanese companies. In almost every case, we recruit bilingual Japanese nationals for senior management positions. In 1996, we started providing search services for recruiting middle management and junior staff, mainly for IT and engineering positions. Besides our professional search group, we have practice groups that cover a wide range of industries, including consumer (retail, wholesale, media/entertainment), manufacturing (computers, electronics, metals and component assemblies), technology (semiconductors, hardware, software, telecommunications), medical and health care (pharmaceutical, medical equipment/devices, services). For our multinational pharmaceutical clients in the US and Europe, we also search for professional management in the areas of product development and government relations. Securing capable management staff is crucial for successful corporate survival, but highly skilled talent does not readily appear in the floating labor market. With our international network of top professional talent and mastery of various search and analysis methods, TESCO has recruited and introduced more than 1,000 positions for our clients.

What differentiates your company from your competitors?
In 1998, TESCO joined ITP (International Technology Network), a global network of independent executive search firms that serves the recruiting needs of technology-oriented growth companies, particularly for their top and senior management positions. This has expanded both our candidate base and scope of assignments internationally, allowing us to better cope with our clientsÕ human resource needs. In addition, TESCO has launched an outplacement counseling and consulting service for foreign and domestic corporations, which offers diagnostic advice on personal skills and career development strategies as well as actual job placement opportunities.
