A new Rupo from Toshiba
Toshiba Rupo Qual JW-F580 is the first under-\100,000 word processor with Japan's new 7-digit postal code data stored in ROM (read-only memory). The unit can convert conventional postal codes to 7-digit codes as well as retrieve addresses from entered postal codes.

The Rupo Qual JW-F580 prints in a total of 16 Japanese and English fonts at 233 cps (characters per second) and comes with an auto-sheet feeder. A full-color hagaki function enables creation of some 300,000 different styles of postcards. Created documents can be easily exchanged with word processors from other manufacturers or converted into MS-DOS text or Microsoft Word 5.0 files.

Learn Japanese while you write
Justsystem's P-kies Emoji Wapuro was developed as a fun word processor for children, but recently it has become popular among foreigners studying the basics of Japanese. While writing, the user can learn proper pronunciation (spoken by an animated character) and even associate words with pictures. The package also includes a variety of letter templates, including thank-you notes, invitations, and apologies. Currently, P-kies runs only on Japanese-capable Windows 95 and Macintosh systems; release of an English-OS version is being considered. The CD-ROM package retails for \5,200.
