Laplink USB cable from InterCom
The Laplink USB cable is a new type of cable released from InterCom. It is used with the popular Laplink 2000 remote-control/file transfer software, and unlike regular USB cables that merely connect a PC to peripheral devices, this new cable allows data transfer between two connected devices using a special ASIC inside the cable. The file transfer speed is as fast as with a LAN connection. The USB cable is hot-swappable and offers plug-and-play connectivity, and supports Windows 98. The Laplink USB cable retails for \7,800.

New Cassiopeia from Casio
Casio has released the new version of its palm-sized PC, the Cassiopeia E-500/ E-507. This Windows CE-based PC now comes with a color TFT LCD, and features multimedia software that plays music (MP3) and animated video files. Pre-installed Microsoft Pocket Outlook allows schedule and e-mail data from other Windows PCs to be imported. With a special cable, Cassiopeia can be connected to the Internet using a cell phone or PHS. The E-507 version also comes with a digital camera card. The Cassiopeia E-500 retails for \98,000, and the E-507 for \125,000.

MouseMan Wheel from Logicool
Logicool has released MouseMan Wheel USB Combo, a mouse featuring connectors for both a USB port and a mouse (PS/2) port. The two types of adapters enable users to choose whichever port is available. Logicool's light-censored wheel is 100% compatible with Microsoft's wheel functionality, and supports Windows 95/98 for the PC98-NX series, and Windows 3.1/95/98/NT4.0 for DOS/V machines. Its dimensions are 67mm x 131mm x 45mm (WxDxH). The MouseMan Wheel retails for \10,000.

New Persona from Hitachi

Hitachi's new handheld PC, the Persona HPW-30, now comes with PostPet e-mail software and the ATOK Japanese FEP (front-end processor) preinstalled. PostPet is very popular, especially among young people, and the program can be started with Persona's quick-start key even when the power is off. Preinstalled business software includes Microsoft Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, and Pocket PowerPoint. Pocket Outlook is also installed for regular e-mail communications (PostPet can only exchange mail with other PostPet users). The HPW-30 Persona is 253mm x 131mm x 32mm (WxDxH) and it weighs 820g. Kensaku Kakumei - Retrieval Revolution
As more and more data is being stored on PCs, it is becoming harder to find the required data quickly. Kensaku Kakumei (Retrieval Revolution) from Panasonic is software that makes finding data easier. Data can be retrieved by keyword search from documents created in Word and Excel, or even from scanned documents. The searched words are highlighted in the resulting file, enabling users to quickly find the desired terms. The software supports documents, images, animations, and sounds as well. It also comes with a viewer to display and print out the retrieved image files. Retail price for Kensaku Kakumei is \29,800.
