PLUG-N-PLAY JAVA
Japan Sun Microsystems has released Java Studio 1.0 Japanese version, that enables assembly of JavaBean components. Unlike previous Java development tools, there is no need for programming or Java-specific knowledge. You only have to choose from 50 odd components and combine them to make a variety of homepages with Java applets and database search applets. JavaBeans created by Java development tools such as Java Workshop can be incorporated as JavaStudio components. It runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT4.0, and Requires 41MB of installation space. NEW IBM THINKPAD
IBM has released the ThinkPad770ED 9549-5AJ which comes with 266MHz Pentium II processor (512kB external cache), 14.1" TFT LCD, 8.1GB of harddisk, 64MB of SDRAM memory (expandable to 160MB) a removable DVD-ROM drive, 56Kbps modem, 4GB of SGRAM, Trident Cyber 9397 video chip with 3D accelerator, and Windows 95. It retails for \948,000. IBM has also released ThinkPad campaign models with ViaVoice Gold Japanese version, a software that enables voice recognition input.

TOSHIBA TRANSLATES
Toshiba has released The Honyaku Office V1.0, a software that enables translation of English and Japanese on Microsoft Word (including Word 98,) Excel, and PowerPoint. By installing this software "The Honyaku Office" item will appear on the menu/tool bar on these Microsoft applications. With a dictionary containing more than 230,000 words, the software is capable of translating Ichitaro/Word RTF format files, automatic translation of clipboard material, and HTML data on the Internet without changing the layouts. Packaged in one CD-ROM, it retails for \16,800.

SING SEARCH & PLAY ON DVD
Demand for DVD players in 1998 is expected to reach 500,000 units. Hitachi has released DV-K2, a DVD player with "DiskNavi" function that facilitates quick search of scenes in a DVD title. It also comes with a karaoke function, for both video CD and DVD karaoke software. DV-K2 can also read and play personal software on CD Rs recorded by video CD/musical CD format. Retail price is \86,000.

LATEST SONY VAIO
Sony has released VAIO PCG-505EX/64 and PCG-505X/64 the latest of their VAIO notePCs. Only 23.9mm thick and 1.35kg in weight, they come with 233MHz (166MHz) of Pentium MMX, 64MB of RAM, 2.1GB of harddisk, 33.6kbps modem, 1.1MB of video memory, 10.4 inch SVGA TFT LCD, and Windows95 that may be upgraded to Windows 98 for free. CD-ROM drive must be purchased separately.
