"Online extras" is a virtual extension of Computing Japan: the place on our website, where we publish material that we couldn't squeeze into this month's paper edition.
At least one of our online extras each month is available for immediate public viewing. Others go first into our Subscribers-Only area and - just like the full online version of the paper magazine - are opened to public access after a three-month delay. If you are a current Computing Japan subscriber, you can request your free password online. (Click on "Subscribers Only" on our homepage for more information).

Our September CJ Online Extras are:

  • What forces are driving the corporate Internet market? Why is security a paradox? Is the Internet really growing as fast as the publicized figures suggest? For more insights into the business of the Net, check out the expanded version of our page 26 interview with PSINet's Jeffrey Shapard. (Subscribers Only)

  • In their brief decade-and-a-half lifespan, personal computers have evolved rapidly. What will future PCs be like? Based on what today's PCs "leave to be desired," what would be your idea of the ultimate computer? The perfect interface? With musings part practical and part fantastical, Associate Editor Tina Lieu starts off this month's online discussion forum at http://www.computingjapan.com/dialog/dialog.html. (Public Access)

  • Two months ago, Computing Japan publisher Terrie Lloyd began his series of "Inside Story" exposés. In August, he looked at the differences between legitimate recruiting firms and unscrupulous headhunters. In September, he took on the bureaucrats of JPNIC. Who'll be his October target? You can find out on our public Online-Extras section. (Public Access)
